Bedfordshire star Tom Grennan proves its more than just his jewellery that’s shining as his critically acclaimed debut album Lighting Matches has been certified Silver!
Released 6th July 2018, Lighting Matches contains his most successful songs to date: ‘Found What I’ve Been Looking For’, ‘Barbed Wire’ and ‘Sober’. The music video for ‘Found What I’ve Been Looking For’ has over 7.1M views on YouTube and is also his first single to gain Silver certification last October. To be awarded Silver status by the BPI, an album must surpass 60,000 units, whereas a single must surpass 200,000 units. This can include online streams (100 = 1 unit) and physical sales (1 = 1 unit).
The album received great scores across the board, including an 8.5/10 from Indie Central, and 4* from both NME and The Independent. Peaking at number 5 in the UK album charts, it propelled the rising star straight into the mainstream and helped him win his first medal of the album cycle as he broke a world record…
Just five days of the album’s release, the ‘Royal Highness’ singer took on the huge task of breaking the Guinness World Record for performing the most gigs in multiple towns in just 12 hours. Travelling across ten towns at least 30 miles apart with populations of 5,000-15,000 to play 15 minute sets to audiences of at least ten people, he smashed it with fifteen minutes to spare.
