Last Friday, Irish singer-songwriter Orla Gartland released her latest passion-filled single ‘Flatline’ along with an equally raw music video.

Yet another guitar-driven pop rock track from the soft multi instrumentalist, ‘Flatline’ is about “giving everything to someone and getting nothing back”. Featuring The 1975-esque melodies and catchy choruses, it follows on from February’s majorly successful track ‘Why Am I Like This?’, which has amassed a million plays in just a few weeks. Currently at 87K YouTube views and over 150K Spotify streams, this is bound to match its mellow predecessor.

The video takes place at a school talent competition, judged by Mitchell Mullen, known for his roles in About TimeBig Nothing and Red 2. Orla can be seen sporting comical Weasley vibes with her strawberry blonde hair and red and gold school uniform as she auditions alongside jugglers, mime acts, ballerinas, and artists.

Behind the scenes, she got huge names on board, including YouTube’s own Jack Howard (director) and Sammy Paul (producer), The Midnight Beast’s Ashley Horne (producer) and Ciaran O’Brien (director of photography). Some might even notice TomSka’s pug Squidge!

Orla, 24, began her music career by posting her covers on YouTube seven years ago before releasing her debut single ‘Devil on My Shoulder’ in 2012. Her dedicated fanbase is now over 200,000 subs strong, many of whom having watched her rise from an acoustic YouTuber to headlining star. Taking inspiration from Joni Mitchell and Regina Spektor, her style strives from indie to pop and folk, having even been compared to Stevie Nicks. She’s gone on to headline shows in the UK, EU, US and Ireland, as well as support the likes of dodie, Nina Nesbitt and Ryan O’Shaughnessy. Irish press have gone on to name her “one of the best solo artists in Ireland” (GoldenPlec) and “one of Ireland’s most influential teens” (Independent) when she was 19.

here is a bunch of pics from the day we shot the ‘flatline’ video ⚡️ a lot of firsts for me – my first chance to work with director @jackhoward , my first time on a big shoot with real life extras & a real life pup (thank u @darksquidge ), my first experience of acting, my first time embracing life as a weasley (a tie colour combo we didn’t think much about at the time, but the comparisons are inevitable & I secretly love it). jack took a nod from the yearbook visuals surrounding my EP & ran with it, made it his own.. I remember reading the script & before the video even existed feeling so lucky to have met this team. the video was produced by @icoepr & @ashleynhorney who did everything from rounding up props to finding a location that fell into the perfect sweet spot between beautiful & tragic. it was shot by @ciaranobriendop who also shot ‘I go crazy’ – the true unsung hero behind so many great music videos & short films. and last but never least the amazing mitchell mullen, our talent show judge – it was so cool of mitchell to lend us his time & talent, I now can’t imagine anyone else playing that part. thank u @gretaisaac @rebstagram @r_ch_el & so many more (full credits soon to be in the youtube description). go watch the video, link in the bio
