Indie pop collective Clean Cut Kid have shared details of their upcoming album Painwave, due 29th March. Painwave will include all three songs from October’s EP Painkiller, ‘Emily’, ‘Slow Progress’ and ‘Stay Awake’, as well as new single ‘Deafening’.
The band went independent for this record, choosing to stray from Polydor and to write, record, mix and engineer the whole album themselves in their home studio. Using AWAL, the same distributor service as the likes of The Kooks, Rex Orange County, You Me At Six and Example to name a few, the band say they’re confident they’ve made the right choice in going DIY as they can have more creative freedom. In an interview with The Mic, they said “[when writing] we were in a new headspace; suddenly we were free from the label we were on, free from people’s opinions”, while vocalist/guitarist Mike Halls has referred to the release as “An unpolished, uninterrupted tape-saturated 1970s journey through human vulnerability.”
This will be the Liverpudlian quartet’s second full length release following 2017’s Felt, which was championed by the likes of Little Indie, Popped Music and Indie Central.
